Ammonium Perchlorate is an oxidizer used in fireworks and strobe compositions. It produces rich colors in some star and fountain formulations.  

Ammonium Perchlorate is an important oxidizer with a long history of use in solid rocket propellants--space launch, military, amateur, and hobby high powered rockets.

An inorganic compound, ammonium perchlorate (NH4ClO4) is the salt of ammonium and perchlorate. While all perchlorates are potentially powerful oxidizers, ammonium perchlorate is especially powerful.

Ammonium Perchlorate is made by a reaction between perchloric acid and ammonia. 

AP can also be prepared by treating of ammonium salts with sodium perchlorate - a process that exploits the fact that the solubility of Ammonium Perchlorate is about ten percent the solubility of sodium perchlorate.

When ammonium perchlorate is mixed with a fuel, such as powdered aluminum, it can generate self-sustained combustion also far under atmospheric pressure.
